Florida has had a lot of people exonerated - give this case a chance too?

Florida Scheduled to Execute Defendant with Strong Claim of Innocence

Wayne Tompkins is scheduled to be executed in Florida at 6 pm on February 11 despite evidence that he could be innocent.  Tompkins was sentenced to death for a murder in which even the victim’s death is in question.  The body used as evidence in the case was identified by partial dental records matching one tooth, and several individuals have signed affidavits saying they saw the victim alive after the alleged murder. Gov. Crist could stay the execution.

Get your bags packed to visit Habana

Send the Cuba Travel Ban to the Trash Bin!

Witness for Peace has worked for the past decade to change the senseless and cruel U.S. policies toward Cuba.  Along with our partners, we have identified that removing the ridiculous ban on travel by U.S. residents to Cuba will be the first step in building fully normalized relations with our island neighbor. President Obama has promised to open up travel for Cuban Americans to visit their family in Cuba, but we must seize this moment to end the travel ban for all U.S. residents once and for all.  We have the best chance we've ever had if we mobilize now.

We now have legislation in the House of Representatives calling for an end to the travel ban on Cuba for all Americans."Travel for All" instead of "Travel for None" or even "Travel for Some."

Take action now:  Send an email to your representative asking him or her to co-sponsor H.R. 874.

On February 4, the Women’s Refugee Commission and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP released Halfway Home: Unaccompanied Children in Immigration Custody, the first in-depth investigation into conditions of care for this vulnerable population since the Homeland Security Act of 2002 ordered a transfer of custody to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). The report details the challenges that exist in protecting the safety and basic rights of these vulnerable children, and reveals a few critical areas that warrant significant improvement.

Anti-Alien Advocates are as American as Apple Strudle!

They are disgusting but America has had Hate Foreigners movements almost since our beginning as a nation. If they did not directly or indirectly encourage acts of violence and killings, they would be just laughable. So they must be exposed and opposed. At the least, when one cracks a joke - say something - silence encourages them or they take it for support and they are emboldened.

Forgotten Victims: Families of People on Death Row

The Old Testament tenet: Do justice, love mercy, and humbly walk with your God describes much of 83-year old Celia McWee's life; visiting her son on death row before he was executed gave her meaning to her life for 13 years.

Celia McWee's loved and lost ones.

Celia McWee, 83, looked forward to Saturdays for 13 years. This was her favorite day of the week because she would use it to make herself pretty for her Sunday morning visit. But she wouldn’t go to church. She would visit the state prison. She would drive three hours from Augusta, Georgia, to Ridgeville, South Carolina, to visit her son, Jerry McWee. Jerry had been on death row since he robbed and killed John Perry, a grocery store clerk in rural Aiken County, in 1991. He was executed on April 14, 2004. He was 52.
