Gary Walkowicz for UAW President 2014 – Statement | Ned Hamson Second Line View of the News

At the UAW Constitutional Convention in June, I intend to run for UAW President because I believe it is the best way to draw attention to the issues that people in the Dearborn Truck Plant, and other UAW members, are concerned with. I will run for President because it is the best way to speak for a different policy.

Jewish extremists vandalize Jerusalem church | Maan News Agency

Vandals sprayed anti-Christian graffiti on a Jerusalem church on Friday, despite Israeli police stepping up security around religious sites ahead of a visit by Pope Francis later this month.

"Price tag... King David for the Jews... Jesus is garbage" was spray-painted in Hebrew on the wall of St George's, a Romanian Orthodox church near an ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhood.

Israeli police said that "Death to Arabs" was found written on a house in the Old City in East Jerusalem, and swastikas were scrawled on the wall of a west Jerusalem apartment.

On Independence Day, Netanyahu caves to right wing - Al-Monitor: the Pulse of the Middle East

The meaning of this is simple: Netanyahu is prepared to gamble on the democratic nature of the State of Israel to stay in office and reap political benefits. The very person who came out in his previous term against the uninhibited laws proposed by Knesset members from the right, who attempted to cause harm to the legal system, has abandoned all that is left of revisionist Zionist leader Ze’ev Jabotinsky’s respectful and honoring manner and the heritage of the late Prime Minister Menachem Begin in the Likud.

Hong Kong reported a new case of influenza A/H7N9 last week and the CDC warned that the virus could make its way to the U.S.

WHO Calls Antibiotic Resistance 'Serious, Worldwide Threat'

WHO Calls Antibiotic Resistance 'Serious, Worldwide Threat'

“Without urgent, coordinated action by many stakeholders, the world is headed for a post-antibiotic era, in which common infections and minor injuries which have been treatable for decades can once again kill,” says Dr Keiji Fukuda, WHO’s Assistant Director-General for Health Security. “Effective antibiotics have been one of the pillars allowing us to live longer, live healthier, and benefit from modern medicine. Unless we take significant actions to improve efforts to prevent infections and also change how we produce, prescribe and use antibiotics, the world will lose more and more of these global public health goods and the implications will be devastating.”
