Chicken salad please; hold the Superbug - whadya mean you cannot!

Canada, Greece, US everywhere or so it seems chicken is in the marketplace and in restaurants loaded up with drug resistant bacteria. Since poultry went global, really global 10-15 years ago, the problems with disease and flu and now Superbug have continued to climb.

So, you wanna cut spending on food inspection and leave it to the Col.? I did not think so. So tell your market, tell your Congressmember and stop buying it til you know it is safe.

Superbugs in Canadian chicken? Yes, and US too

Chicken bought at major supermarkets across Canada is frequently contaminated with superbugs — bacteria that many antibiotics cannot kill — an investigation by CBC TV’s Marketplace has found.

Two-thirds of the chicken samples had bacteria.
Some of the bacteria found were resistant to six, seven or even eight different types of antibiotics.

Valentine's Day Call - Support safe, affordable, and sustainable food

Give some love to each and every one of us - by supporting good food in USA!

I’m working on a campaign to support food that is safe, affordable, and
sustainable; and a food system that is fair for farmers and consumers. As
a first step, we need President Obama to finalize and implement the fair
livestock marketing rules that the USDA proposed from the last Farm Bill
– back in 2008. In order to make that happen, I’m helping to generate
hundreds of phone calls into the White House today. This can’t wait any
longer. Can you make a quick call? It only takes a minute and makes a big
impact. Here’s the number and a sample script:

1. Call the White House at (202) 456-1111 between 9am- 5pm EST. (call again if there is a back up)
2. Tell them your name and where you’re from, and then simply ask
that President Obama finalize and implement the fair livestock
marketing rules that USDA proposed from the last Farm Bill.

Or use this sample script:
“Hi. My name is ______ and I live in (city, state). As a constituent, I urge
President Obama to finalize and implement the fair livestock marketing
rules that USDA proposed from the last Farm Bill. Thank you for your
time today.”

Every call counts. When you’re done, shoot me a quick reply so I can keep
track of all the calls we’ve made today. Thanks for helping us in this fight for
a fair Farm Bill!

Drones in Pakistan Nuture Anti-American Frenzy

Our US Embassy employee may have been defending himself but the Pakistani reaction to the problem is based in the rage from all the innocents killed by drones that killed civilians based on bad information. Now we are truly between a rock and a hard place and may trigger a total meltdown of the Pakistan government. The Lebanese, Iranian Green, Egyptian and Tunisian revolts are not lost on Pakistani people - karma all over the place...!

A glance at the conflict in Afghanistan

When Raymond Davis, a US Embassy employee, allegedly shot dead two men on a motorbike in Lahore on 26 January, he precipitated a major crisis.
Davis should never have been armed
Further problems have been caused by the failure of US officials to offer a clear explanation of what Davis was doing in Pakistan.

Super Pig Farms in EU - Just Say No

Why? The Superbug that threatens people in hospitals and other locations - resistant to most medicines and eats you - started in Denmark among pig farms that used too much anti-biotics. American supported Big Ag firms and partners want to export our 1,000 plus pig farm messes to EU for more Euros in their accounts regardless of whether it kills us later or not.

Opposing industrial-scale pig farming — in Europe

At the European Parliament today, three national representatives — Janusz Wojciechowski of Poland, José Bové of France and Dan Jørgensen of Denmark — declared their opposition to industrial-scale swine agriculture

As I’ve written before (long archive here and here),the MRSA strain ST398 arose on Dutch pig farms in 2004, among pigs that had been given prophylactic doses of antibiotics, especially tetracycline. It has since spread through the EU, Canada and the United States, affecting not only farm workers and veterinarians, but also hospital patients with no connection to agriculture.

"Family" group preaches: Native American Immorality Led to Being Conquered

This man's historical and cultural ignorance is perhaps equaled by his not understanding how hate and fear colors all his life. End Bird Flu Pandemic Threat - Cull Industrialized Poultry Farming

When the natural system sees that there is an overpopulation of any species - birds in particular - it "creates" a situation that allows killer viruses to mutate and re-balance the system by killing birds. Creating in this case means that birds are stressed and in close quarters both conditions facilitated/trigger an outbreak of a virus - and the result is a system that re-balances itself by reducing the number of animals in a confined space.

Culling the birds stops the immediate outbreak but continued industrialized breeding starts up the virus cycle again. Raising fewer birds and in less confined space reduces the outbreaks. Additionally, cleaning out urine and feces often and putting it in digesters that can kill all viruses, produce methane gas for energy production, and clean fertilizer. Another by-product? Fewer outbreaks of the "normal" flu which all start from an interaction between people, poultry, and pigs.

That the use of antibiotics on conventional/confinement farms provokes the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria really isn’t in dispute; it’s been proven, over and over again, for about 30 years now.
FoodNet, monitors the prevalence of 10 illness-causing organisms, but doesn’t test for antibiotic resistance.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest says yes. In a white paper published this week, the group documents 35 outbreaks between 1973 and 2009 for which epidemiologic and microbiological links are clear.

Greenwashing Victory for Nestlé: to receive 2011 Gold Medal in Sustainable Development

Sustainable development? Well they do give money to NGOs which gets them a greenwashing pass-go-get-out-of-jail-free card.
They also own a number of bottled water and mineral water companies around the world packaged in both plastic and glass.
It was reported on Apr 17, 2006 ... Nestlé Obtains a Patent on Genetically Modified Coffee Plants

They have switched palm oil suppliers after a campaign this past year but have not stopped using palm oil in its products.

They have done a good job of greenwashing and this award will be used to try and make them look like a good guy company.

Do a little search on your own when you see a for-profit firm getting an award for being sustainable. And check out the companies giving "awards/grants/cash" based on your "voting" for your favorite charity. Their purpose? Spend a little to buy a whole lot of good feeling while they kill your community or planet, and maybe export your job out of the country.

Greed-based Spin About GM Chickens Conquering Flu

Industrialized farming of poultry over the past decade - chickens, duck, geese, turkeys - and its massing of birds raised to profit from the world market caused nature to respond with the lethal H5N1 avian influenza as a means to "re-balance" an out of balance system. The "scientists" proclaim themselves as masters of nature and that "their" (soon to be patented) GM chickens will end the threat of H5N1 in chickens. What the development of a monoculture of chickens will do is trigger another attempt by the natural system to develop another, perhaps even more lethal virus to "re-balance" the system again.

Greed-based science is not the cure, it will likely be the "disease" that will kill us all.
