    Climate Justice: The Copenhagen Moment

There are some moments, some times, some days when you have to act because there may be no second chance. Are you will to let our leaders take the chance that there will be a second chance?

When (if) the sea takes back major parts of Holland, covers Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Tokyo... and you realize that we had a chance to act but did not - what will you say to those born after that moment who have friends and relatives in those cities?

No wearing white after Labor Day and no clean laundry blowing in the wind

Simply unbelievable in an era when conserving energy and using the power of the sun and wind is on page one. But those who want everything neat and tidy look down their noses at hanging out your laundry and it is illegal is some place - really!

US Residents Fight for the Right to Hang Laundry

PERKASIE, Pennsylvania - Carin Froehlich pegs her laundry to three clotheslines strung between trees outside her 18th-century farmhouse, knowing that her actions annoy local officials who have asked her to stop.

500 years of domination - we're still standing

Down on "our" border between Arizona and Mexico, the O'odham say: This is still our land, even if it takes another 500 years to get it back from the Anglos and the Spanish/Mexicans.

O'odham: Surviving apartheid on the illegal border

    By Brenda Norrell
    Censored News
Ofelia Rivas said O’odham were never included in the dialogue determining the delineation of the US/Mexico border in the 1800s or the construction of the border wall.
“We were not at that table when they made that international border. We were not considered human,” she told the crowd of several hundred people.
During the event, the crowd enjoyed traditional O'odham tepary beans, baked squash and fry bread, cooked by Ramon and her family.
The event was a fundraiser for the O'odham Solidarity Project.

Mutation of pandemic influenza A(H1N1) in Norway

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health announced today to have found a mutated version of the influenza A(H1N1) virus in three patients in Norway who had tested positive for the new flu.
Based on what we know so far, it seems that the mutated virus does not circulate in the population, but might be a result of spontaneous changes which have occurred in these three patients.

    - There is no indication that this change in the virus is of any importance for the effect of the vaccine or the effect of antiviral treatment, concludesStene-Larsen.

Fab Lab and Do-It-Yourself Infrastructure Building

Here's a photo of a directional antenna that can transmit Wi-Fi Internet several miles. Anyone can build one with materials from a hardware store; you can even download the blueprint online for free.

The organization behind the antennas is Fab Lab, an international network of community workshops. Fab Lab helps residents install the antennas and, even more importantly, learn how to use them. These may not be the most sophisticated antennas, but they work. They're inexpensive and easy to repair, qualities more important in Afghanistan than a good warranty.

The Geezer Flu Advantage - Finally an advantage of being a boomer geezer!

Recent studies find that baby boomers over 55 who had earlier flus may/probably have some immunity to current H1N1.

Smile - all they needed ot do was do a survey in the age group and ask who got the big Hong Kong or Asian flu in 1957-58, or 1967-68. Then ask those who said yes, how often they ever got the flu afterward.

When you survive 3-6 weeks of fevers, dry heaves, etc, its seems you get a boat load of anitbodies and antibody memory.

My bet is that those who survived the 1917-1918 flu had the same immunities.

However... I still get the flu shots because when you get millions upon millions of ducks. geese, chickens and pigs together in live markets leading up to Lunar New Year (Jan/Feb) in China, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Korea - you have a live lab to create an entirely new version of flu.

And now that there is a truly global poultry market, new versions of flu will no longer be limited to Asian starts. That is what was most novel about H1N1, it started in Northern H

Being a Mother a Precondition for Abuse by Army?

Seems that way. Threaten to woman with a court-martial, take her child away and put in custody!? This is the US Army? Someone needs to get a hold on reality and treat her and her child right. The dumbest part is how well do they think she will perform in Afghanistan after this type of treatment? Sounds like old East German military not the US Army that usually does us proud without thinking about it. Fit it now!
