Ebola Outbreak: NC Missionaries Evacuating 60 People

Ebola Outbreak: NC Missionaries Evacuating 60 People

Will they be bringing ebola with them?

Will they be screened before getting on a flight home?

Will they be isolated for 21 days when they return home?

North Carolina groups, SIM in Charlotte and Samaritan's Purse in Boone, announced Tuesday they are bringing some of their missionaries home because of the growing Ebola outbreak in West Africa. SIM is similar to Samaritan's Purse, it's a Christian organization that sends missionaries across the world. SIM USA President Bruce Johnson said around 60 people, mostly nonessential personnel like children and spouses, will return to the U.S.

"Please stop!": Pope makes plea for peace | News , World | THE DAILY STAR

With his voice appearing to crack with emotion, the pope broke off from his scripted remarks to make a direct appeal for fighting to end.
"Please stop! I ask you with all my heart, it's time to stop. Stop, please!"
While he made no direct reference to the situation in the Gaza Strip, the comments came after a humanitarian truce broke down Sunday with the resumption of fighting in which more than 1,000 people, mostly civilians including dozens of children, have been killed.
"Brothers and sisters, never war, never war! I am thinking above all of children, who are deprived of the hope of a worthwhile life, of a future," he said.
"Dead children, injured children, mutilated children, orphaned children, children whose toys are things left over from war, children who can't smile any more," he said.

Oh what will you wear for Eid,
My darling young one,
Oh what will you wear for Eid,
My darling young one?
I’ll wear my burial shroud
In my Grave.rest-in-peace-Salma

I Miss You
Mother, please don’t be afraid
For me, my journey cut short
By Israeli Demons’ so Loud,—
Their rockets went past clouds
In the sky, a Space
Satellite Saw Gaza Ablaze.

I Miss You
Mother, please don’t be afraid
For me, my journey cut short
By Israeli Demons’ so Loud,—
I’m Praying for Gaza, my head bowed.
In Paradise, with Allah, who Hears
Every Prayer, He wiped away all of my Tears.

OSI Meat Scandal in China Causes Yum Brands to Terminate Deal

OSI Meat Scandal in China Causes Yum Brands to Terminate Deal

It isn't a household name, but the company at the center of a food scandal in China helps make some of the world's most popular foods, including the Big Macs and Quarter Pounders served at McDonald's locations.
OSI Group, a privately-held company based in Aurora, Illinois, was thrust into the spotlight this weekend when a Chinese TV station reported that one of its Shanghai plants repackaged old beef and chicken and slapped new expiration dates on them. The scare has ensnared chains including McDonald's, KFC, Burger King and Starbucks, all of which got ingredients from a unit of OSI (pronounced OH-see) in the region called Husi FoodCo.
The controversy deepened Wednesday when five workers for Husi, were detained by police. An official with China's food safety agency told the Xinhua News Agency that some of the illegal conduct it uncovered was an arrangement "organized" by Husi.
None of OSI's more than 50 other plants around the world have been implicated and the company noted in a statement that it was "appalled by the report and is dealing with the issue directly and quickly."
A representative for OSI in the U.S. declined to provide comment beyond the statement.

The jihadists of the 'Caliphate' attack Tilkif, rejected by Kurdish Peshmerga - Fides News Agency

The jihadists of the 'Caliphate' attack Tilkif, rejected by Kurdish Peshmerga - Fides News Agency

Yesterday evening, Tuesday 22 July, the militia of the self-proclaimed Islamic Caliphate responsible for the expulsion of Christians and Shiites from the city of Mosul launched a mortar attack against the village of Tilkif in an attempt to break into one of the towns in the Nineveh Plain, where families found refuge. "The attack started from a village controlled by jihadists – says Chaldean priest Paul Thabit Mekko to Fides Agency - but was rejected by the Kurdish Peshmerga troops. In the night panic had driven dozens of Christian families to flee to Dohuk, but the Kurdish soldiers who were controlling a checkpoint told them that the situation was under control and could return home".
The episode highlights the uncertainty that hangs over the whole area: on the one hand, the attack represents the proof that the militia of the Islamic Caliphate are not content with controlling Mosul and would like to extend control over the Nineveh Plain. "But the reaction of the Peshmerga - notes Fr. Thabit Mekko - confirms that the Kurds are determined to protect this area from jihadist militants. Here, now, there are only Kurdish military forces that ensure the safety of the population".

Angel - Sarah McLachlan & Pink (Duet) - With Lyrics

Noa: Open letter to the wind

Noa: Open letter to the wind Israel, Gaza, Palestine

If we refuse to recognize each other’s rights and embrace our obligations, if we continue to each cling to his own narrative with contempt and disregard for that of the other, if we again and again choose swords over words, if we sanctify land and not the lives of our children, we shall soon be forced to truly seek a colony on the moon, for our land will be so drenched in blood and so cluttered with tomb stones there will be nothing left for the living.
I wrote these words, and sang them together with my friend Mira Awad. They stand truer than ever today:
“when I cry I cry for both of us,
My pain has no name.
When I cry, I cry to the merciless sky and say:
There must be another way

Gaza girls flee shells in Shujaiyeh, killed in place deemed safer | Maan News Agency

Gaza girls flee shells in Shujaiyeh, killed in place deemed safer | Maan News Agency

A Palestinian couple from Shajaiyeh decided to leave their home several days ago and bring their family to central Gaza City, thinking it would be a safer place.

However, four sisters from the family were killed when their grandparents' home where they were taking refuge was hit by Israeli artillery shells.

"They fled the shelling in Shujaiyeh neighborhood, to their grandfather's house in Thalathini, but shells followed them there," the bereaved father said.

"My daughters were playing on the roof of their grandfather's house when I was telling my wife on the phone that we should go back home," father Yasser al-Qassas said.

The call ended all of a sudden, he said. "When I redialed there was no answer."

"I telephoned one of my wife's brothers and he didn't answer either. A cousin of mine then answered my call to say that my daughters had been killed."

Text of H.R. 5058: Wild Horse Oversight Act (Introduced version) - GovTrack.us

Except as provided by subsection (b), at the request of the legislature or Governor of a State or the governing body of a federally recognized Indian tribe, the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture shall allow the State or federally recognized Indian tribe to assume all management and protection functions under this Act regarding wild free-roaming horses and burros on land within the boundaries of the State or federally recognized Indian tribe. After a State or federally recognized Indian tribe assumes such functions, wild free-roaming horses and burros shall be managed by the State or federally recognized Indian tribe in accordance with this Act and in the same manner as any other non-federally regulated species regarding functions not specified in this Act.

Will this endanger wild horses and burros if states and reservations take over management and protection? My assumption is that it would - bot horse folks will know better.

Let There Be Peace - Donna Summer

Let There Be Peace

Someone let communication out the door
Someone decided it's worth fighting for
Why haven't we learned by what we've done before?
Don't you know history's keeping score?
For every boy and every girl
Let there be love
All over the world
For everyone
Under the sun...
Let there be peace on earth
Let every voice be heard
Let there be peace on earth
Brother to brother
'Til it's felt around the world
There's only one world in which we all must live
Heaven show us how to forgive
And on that marble wall which holds a million names
Generations of dreams gone down in flames
Isn't, isn't it a shame?
For every boy and every girl
Under the sun...
Let there be peace on earth
(Why don't you try just a little harder?)
Let every voice be heard
(My brother)
Let there be peace on earth
(Oh, if we could just get it together)
'Til it's felt around the world
We're running out of time
As our leaders roll the dice
The human spirit cries
It's a precious, precious sacrifice
Let there be peace on earth
Let every voice be heard
Let there be peace on earth
'Til it's felt around the world

Israeli airstrikes kill 30 Palestinians | Maan News Agency

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli airstrikes across the besieged Gaza Strip killed 30 Palestinians overnight Wednesday and Thursday, including a family of eight, bringing the total death toll to 81.

Israeli warplanes fired a missile at a car in the northern Gaza strip killing three Palestinians. A medical official confirmed that the remains of the victims were taken to Kamal Udwan Hospital.

Two of the men were identified as Mahmoud Waloud and Hazim Balousha.

Ismail Abu Jami, 19, was killed in a strike on Khan Younis and Abdullah Ramadan Abu Ghazal, five, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beit Lahiya, Gaza health ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said.

Israeli warplanes also targeted a residential house in al-Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, with no injuries reported.

In the southern Gaza Strip, an Israeli missile hit a residential building in Rafah. Three men were injured in a car traveling near the building.

Three men were injured, one seriously, in an airstrike targeting a motorcycle in Rafah. Another airstrike struck Gaza City, injuring two, while another airstrike targeted al-Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza.

Earlier, an airstrike hit a car in al-Nafaq street in Gaza City, killing three and injuring four.

Bahaa Abu al-Leil, 35, Wisam Qandil and Amir al-Fayoumi were identified as the victims. Islamic Jihad said in a statement that the men were fighters with the al-Quds Brigades.

Early Thursday, Israeli warplanes targeted a building in Khan Younis, killing eight members of the al-Hajj family. Over 30 people were injured in the strike.

Most of the victims were children, al-Qidra said, adding that Israeli forces bombed the building without a warning or asking them to evacuate.

Tariq al-Hajj, Najla al-Hajj, Aminah al-Hajj, Saad al-Hajj, Omar al-Hajj, Aminah al-Hajj, and Basimah al-Hajj, 57, were named as the victims.

Earlier, nine Palestinians were killed and at least 10 injured when Israel targeted Waqt al-Marah coffee shop on a Khan Younis beach.

Locals said dozens of people were watching the World Cup semi-final game when Israel fired a missile at the crowd.

Muhammad Khalid Qannan, his brother Ibrahim, Hamdi Kamil Sawali, Suleiman al-Astal, Ahmad al-Astal, Mousa al-Astal and Muhammad al-Aqqad were identified as some of the victims.

Muhammad Ihsan Farawneh, 18, was found dead on Thursday under the rubble of the cafe.

Another airstrike in the al-Zawayda village in central Gaza killed four members of the Shalat family; a couple and two children.

The aftermath of an Israeli airstrike on a media vehicle in Gaza late Wednesday.

Late Wednesday, an Israeli airstrike killed Hamdi Shihab, who worked as a driver for local news agency Media 24.

The car had 'TV' clearly marked in red paint on the bonnet of the vehicle.

Early on Thursday the Israeli military said that during the course of the preceding day, "at least 82 rockets hit Israel" and 21 were intercepted.

The Israeli army said it launched raids on "322 targets" overnight, taking the total number of Hamas targets hit to 750.

Afghan Women's Writing Project | Tonight Is My Night

Afghan Women's Writing Project | Tonight Is My Night

Tonight is my night,
Come with me,
Tonight is a night for poetry, love, and honesty.
I have my candle, my deep, dark night and
the lonely moon in a big sky.
My pen, my paper,
So much to talk about,
So much to write about,
I don’t know if I will have them tomorrow.
Tonight is my night,
Come with me
And I will tell you the secret of life.
Everyone is sleeping,
I am awake,
And I am deep in love with life.
It is sweet, it is bitter, still I love it.
It is silent now, but there is so much
noise in my memory. Life makes me cry,
makes me laugh, reminds me I can be
a child again, even with gray hair.
My cane will hold me,
guide me to the end of my journey.
Tonight is my night,
Come with me before tomorrow
When the sun will rise again,
Birds will sing again,
Seasons will come again,
But when I am gone,
You will not see me again,
You will not hear me again.
I will leave my words behind,
My poems, my memories.
You will find me there.
You will feel me there.
Tonight is for poetry
Tonight is for laughter
Tonight is for uniting with life.
Tonight is my last night
Come with me!

Song and Dance Festival Wraps Up | News | ERR

Song and Dance Festival Wraps Up | News | ERR

The XIX dance festival was sold out, with 3,000 additional tickets sold in June due to popular demand. More than 10,000 dancers took part in the three performances titled "Puudutus" (Touch) and based on a fairy tale by Sven Weidebaum.
The first concert, was called “Touched by Time”, a "journey in song" through the history of the festival. The second concert was called “Time to Touch”, with staples of the song festival and a mix of new works, attracted around 100,000 spectators each. There were 40,000 participants - made up of choral groups and musicians - performing at the second concert, ETV reported on Sunday.
The song “Puudutus” (Touch), by Tõnu Kõrvits, was created specifically for the festival with lyrics by poet Kristiina Ehin. It was so popular that it was performed twice by the singers and twice more at the end of the festival.
